Fleurie "Château des Labourons"

Description

Château des Labourons dominates the beautiful hillsides of the Fleurie appellation. It is located 3 kilometres further up the hill from the hamlet of Les Labourons. The combination of the altitude, slope, exposure and quality of the soil have created a promising terroir in the heart of the Fleurie Cru. Château des Labourons' current architecture dates from the 19th century. It was rebuilt from ashes after a devastating fire, but still retains some of its original architectural character. This Château has a long history, over five generations of the "de Lescure" family, and it was already producing wine by the 18th century.

Winemaking

Grapes are destemmed and macerations last for 8 to 21 days, with temperature control and daily pumping-overs. After the pressuring, wine is aged partly in oak barrels (15%) before bottling.

Tasting note

Our 2020 Fleurie "Château des Labourons" reveals a magnificent deep ruby hue with purple reflects. The nose is intense, on blackberries and mineral notes, typical of the granitic terroir (ink, graphite). On the mouth, the wine is concentrated with supple silky tannins. Nice finish on floral notes, with slight spices hints.

Ripe and fragrant, this Fleurie has many wild strawberry, black cherry and floral aromas. But behind the charm offensive is also an impressive structure, the fine tannins and earthy character interlocking neatly. Long, rather serious finish for this appellation. Drink or hold.
